Samian was one of the Sibyls of ancient Greek mythology.
They were prophetesses who served their local community by answering questions about the day-to-day problems and concerns of local people.
I chose to include the quotations in their original (or translated) forms.
If the authors were writing now, I'm confident they would use more inclusive alternatives.
